I played in Kearney, Nebraska last night @ a venue called Cunningham’s Journal. It was my second time playing there. My first experience had to be on one of the coldest days of this last winter. I had to start my car on the set breaks to make sure I had a running car. This undoubtedly kept the college students at bay…I believe I played for 14 patrons that evening. The numbers were not as disappointing as much as how much I loved the sound system and had no one to share it with. I easily slipped in and out of thoughts of being at the All State Arena. The sound system and sound man, Mark, is a musicians dream. Crystal clear, just enough reverb, and rounded out the sound nicely. This time around, the sun was shining, 85 degrees and they had me play their back patio. Fortunately for me, Mark was doing sound and they had they same sound gear ready to go. The patio filled as the night went on, from college students to parents and grandmas dancing in the corner. I had a blast. Thank you to Kearney, Nebraska for a fun time and introducing me to a refreshing mix of tomato juice in my Coors light. It was worth the heart burn!

A Night @ The Meadowlark in Denver, CO.

The Meadowlark in LODO Denver, CO. has a beautiful outside music venue. I had the honor of sharing the stage last night with Miles Nielsen, Danielle Ate the Sandwich, and Benyaro. I’ll also share the stage with Benyaro this evening at the Laughing Goat in Boulder.
Miles Nielsen as the lead singer to Harmony Riley. They were opening for Freddy Jones Band at the Vic Theater in Chicago. I’m glad I got there early, I became forever a fan. Later, I was old enough to play bars and shard the stage with Miles up in Rockford, IL at a bar called Kryptonite Bar. Nervous to hang with him at first, I soon became a fan of Miles as one hell of a guy to learn from, listen, and share stories with. He just released a new album that is worth every minute of your time to listen to.
Danielle not only ate the sandwich but devoured the creative essence of great songwriting. The way she pronunciates her lyrics leaves one helpless to hang on each word. She switched things up by bringing out her ukulele. I sat in front for a song or two, it was inspiring!
Benyaro beat the crap out of his nylon guitar with a sense of rhymthic roots rock rarely found hailing from New York City. His partner in crime kept time with a hi-hat while tying down the low end on his stand up bass. They were full of energy and heart. I’m fortunate to hear them again tonight, and for free! You might have to pay $5.
