Mike Mangione, a songwriter and musician from the Midwest, embarks on a new tour that will cover a lot of ground this fall. For Mangione, touring has become a mainstay of his career. It is a means and an end. Touring allows Mangione the opportunity to connect with people and to try out new material, and perhaps most important, to survive. Mangione has remained an independent touring artist for over seven years. That he has maintained independence in this age of DIY and indie-model renaissance is perhaps not surprising, but that he has remained so by choice and that it has worked, surprises even Mangione himself. Now, on the dawn of his third release, Offering, the first with his official band, Mangione plans on continuing one CD, one fan, and one step at a time towards the blossoming career of a self-made independent.

A Night @ The Meadowlark in Denver, CO.

The Meadowlark in LODO Denver, CO. has a beautiful outside music venue. I had the honor of sharing the stage last night with Miles Nielsen, Danielle Ate the Sandwich, and Benyaro. I’ll also share the stage with Benyaro this evening at the Laughing Goat in Boulder.
Miles Nielsen  as the lead singer to Harmony Riley. They were opening for Freddy Jones Band at the Vic Theater in Chicago. I’m glad I got there early, I became forever a fan. Later, I was old enough to play bars and shard the stage with Miles up in Rockford, IL at a bar called Kryptonite Bar. Nervous to hang with him at first, I soon became a fan of Miles as one  hell of a guy to learn from, listen, and share stories with. He just released a new album that is worth every minute of your time to listen to.
Danielle not only ate the sandwich but devoured the creative essence of great songwriting. The way she pronunciates her lyrics leaves one helpless to hang on each word. She switched things up by bringing out her ukulele. I sat in front for a song or two, it was inspiring!
Benyaro beat the crap out of his nylon guitar with a sense of rhymthic roots rock rarely found hailing from New York City. His partner in crime kept time with a hi-hat while tying down the low end on his stand up bass. They were full of energy and heart. I’m fortunate to hear them again tonight, and for free! You might have to pay $5.
